Baia Sprie (in Hungarian Felsőbánya, in trans. Baia de Sus, in German Mittelstadt) is a city in Maramureș County, Transylvania, Romania, consisting of the component localities Baia Sprie (residence), Chiuzbaia and Tăuții de Sus, and the village of Satu Nou from Above. It has a population of 15,476 inhabitants (2011). It was one of the important mining centers in Maramureș.
A mining activity in the region of the town is already reported in the Bronze Age. The exploitation of gold and silver is remembered through the years 1141 when the Saxons colonized the region. In 1329 the locality is attested under the name of Mons Medius. In 1774, the first scientific research on mining is published.
The park created following the implementation of the Mine Park project co-financed by the Maramures County Council
